They Sure Did

More benefits of going to the gym. Everyone asks them. They tell the truth. “Where did you guys meet?” Where do you think they met? Sexy people meet, where sexy people are made . . . the gym!

Years ago, when I was a real gym-rat (Soon to be again!) I had an interesting conversation with my boss. He’s a real good guy, but he creates some “interesting” logic. He seemed to think that the reason he was 50 pounds overweight, while I was at about 5% body-fat, had nothing to do with behavior.

You see, at the time, I was working out 6 to 7 days per week. I would train 2 hours per day and I was eating very lean meals. My boss, on the other hand, never worked out and he at fast-food every day. He couldn’t (wouldn’t) see the cause and effect relationship of our respective behaviors.

I told him it was how we lived, and ate. I asked him, “Why do you think you see overweight people at fast-food restaurants and fit people at the gym?” His response was amazing.

My boss said: “Wait a minute. Maybe fit people tend to hang out at gyms while overweight people tend to go to fast-food restaurants.”
You can’t make this stuff up. He really said that. Ah . . . denial. Let me make my point.

Yes, going to the gym regularly, working out (properly) and eating a healthy diet, will help get you into shape. It will make you look and feel better and it is good for your overall health and well-being. All true. But there is more. You will meet people there. You will make friends. You may even find a romantic partner.

The gym is more than a place to get fit. You will interact. This is a good thing. Just remember, you ARE there to work so, get the work done, and don’t hinder other’s workouts. But yes, you will meet people. These people will be involved in physical activities. You will most likely end up doing fun things with new friends. I know I did.

All of this is good for living a fuller and happier life. In fact, it is a lifestyle. This will make going to the gym less like work and more like . . . well, life.

This year, instead of making a New Year’s Resolution to lose weight, make a resolution to start a journey to a fuller and happier life. The gym is a good place to start. Besides, you never know who you might meet.
